Tom Scott

Tom Scott, PhD, is a social scientist in RTI's Policing Research Program and an expert in research design and quantitative data analysis. He has substantive knowledge in the areas of policing, crime investigations, crime prevention, and gun violence. Mr. Scott currently assists U.S. police departments in testing unsubmitted sexual assault kits, solving sexual assaults, and improving community outreach through the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative. He works with the National Crime Statistics Exchange, where he focuses on expanding and improving the National Incident-Based Reporting System to provide nationally representative statistics on crime in the United States. Mr. Scott also currently collects data on mass shooting plots to identify promising indicators of potential mass shootings. Mr. Scott's research is published in Criminology & Public Policy, Police Quarterly, and Russell Sage Foundation Journal of the Social Sciences.
